SinCo PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Within these five service themes [architecture/ systems, indexes, frameworks, education, and thematic research], the nine activities we typically work on for our clients globally are:
1. DESIGNING FOR SI / ESG
Designing and developing new sustainable investment ideas into action. Designing often necessitates considering the aesthetic, functional, economic and socio-political dimensions of sustainable investment and ESG factors, of both the investment decision and design process. SinCo undertakes substantive research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design.
2. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project management of new sustainable investment investment product design. Discipline of planning, organizing, securing, and managing resources to meet investor client specific goals [eg. implementing a proxy voting policy]. Projects have a defined beginning and end within parameters of time, funding or deliverables. SinCo adds value by meeting the project responsibilities of planning, execution, and closing projects for SI/ESG capabilities. The team configuration will differ by phase.
3. BENCHMARKING SI / ESG
Benchmarking sustainable investment/ESG against current best global emerging markets practices in sustainable investment. Whether a client is based in emerging markets or investing into emerging markets, SinCo offers the service of presenting best practices as a point of reference for a measurement. Benchmarking competitors, peers, or markets represents the performance of the market by proxy, reflecting investor sentiment on the state of SI/ESG. '
4. SI / ESG RFPs
RFPs on appropriate sustainable investment/ESG service providers ranging from asset consultants to asset managers to ESG research houses. Issued at an early stage in a procurement process, where an invitation is presented for investment services suppliers, most often through a transparent bidding process, SinCo has expertise in managing the RFP process to bring structure to the procurement decision and to allow the risks and benefits to be identified clearly upfront. Effective RFPs typically reflect the SI/ESG strategy and short/long-term business objectives, providing detailed insight upon which suppliers will be able to offer a matching perspective, and a short enough not to distract from the main thing.
5. ESG REPORTING
Regular compliance and audit functions based on industry standards and guidelines such as the Equator Principles (EP3), Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), Code for Responsible Investment in South Africa (CRISA) etc. SinCo reports present focused, salient content for the standards body, signatory initiative, compliance function, or a specific audience. Reports convince of the result of an experiment, investigation, or inquiry - whether public or private, for audiences of institutional or retail investors, governments, stock exchanges, regulators and universities. SinCo applies an original approach to graphics, images, and ESG-specialized vocabulary in order to persuade the specific audience to act.
6. PRIVATE PLACEMENTS
With our experience and network of investment relationships, we offer a discreet service to fund managers seeking assets and investors seeking a pipeline of opportunity, where that investment intersects with our mission of promoting sustainable investment in frontier and emerging markets. As interlocutor at the interface of sustainable investment capital and investable opportunities in frontier and emerging markets, SinCo offers bespoke services identifying investable opportunities for fund pipelines and introductions to key investment capital funds and projects globally where we have a level of comfort and assurance about the quality of the offering.
7. SI / ESG POLICIES
The institutional investment decisions are driven by the unique investment policy statements of each asset owner, investment manager or capital project. With the increase in the push from hard rules [regulations] and soft rules [voluntary initiatives] the need for greater transparency and better governance of investment decisions creates risks for investment that lack proper policy and policy implementation. SinCo offers skills in the legal framing and experience in the investment-ready approaches. Our work presents coherent policy statements, with actionable and auditable processes to verify policy implementation in practice, that allows our clients to demonstrate best practice to regulators, stakeholders and most importantly, their investors.
