PANEL INSTRUCTIONS at 23 November 2013

EDITED UNIQUE QUESTIONS

Rina Kupferschmid-Rojas, CEO, ESG Analytics

  • 1. How ‘serious’ are private equity companies about using ESG data - demand, usage statistics, unmet demand, oversupply?
  • 2. Are PE funds going beyond the ‘turning the lights off’ initiatives - compare and contrast laggards/leaders; offer examples across the 4 simple stages: asset gathering/due diligence/portfolio company management/exit?

Matt Christensen, Global Head of Responsible Investment, AXA Investment Managers

  • 1. How is buy-in really happening from the top-down (c-suite) in large organizations to really start driving meaningful ESG integration into portfolio decisions in equities vs infrastructure/private equity.  How would you rate the work in your organization, who are the leaders/laggards amongst your peers?
  • 2. What is the demand for "impact investments" with different expectations of returns from financial/E/S/G? Where is too much hype?

Stephen Scofield, Associate Director of Institutional Relations, North America, Sustainalytics

  • 1. What developments are you seeing in the way ESG analysis clients in the US are using ESG data for risk and return information? What is the demand across asset owners vs asset managers; different size asset managers; different styles of investment houses? What ESG data is used most, least vs Europe?
  • 2. Sustainalytics has been involved in the creation of a Latin American SIF: what is the latest, what news on how it will operate/themes to look at?

Robert Schwob, Principal, Style Research

  • 1. You’ve done some interesting research on the perceived value of ESG info [send PDF, please] versus is the actual investment value of the same data (environmental theme is most salient). Explain the study and reference the universe, research protocol and method, assumptions, time period, data consistency and findings, what future research is required.
  • 2. What does this mean for investment decisions in listed equity vs direct investments (private equity, infrastructure).

Panel format: Q&A only, no individual ‘presentations’. 50 minute panel.

This year we are looking to encourage discussion and cross panellist interaction rather than individual presentations. This will be accompanied by Q&A responses from the audience.

The moderator will announce each speakers’ company and title, and speaker biogs will be in the conference app book, so there is no need to present the firm other than a very brief one-liner.

The idea behind the panel is to pose an opening individual topical question to each of the panellists for a maximum of 5-6 minutes discussion (please be strict on timing to allow fairness) with the moderator (chat show style), and to bring in other panellists for any ‘brief’ follow up points/responses during that time.

Duration: 30-40 minutes

The opening questions should be agreed with each of the speakers, and they can use amaximum of three slides (with a preference for one major slide if possible) to illustrate any particular points they think are interesting. The questions aim to be topical but to elucidate a more long-term underlying theme/discussion.

After 30-40 minutes:

The floor will be opened up for Q&A based on the initial discussion points.
